The Victorian Biodiversity Managers’ Network in Australia held a forum based around the Open Standards in May 2017 to expose people in the biodiversity management industry to the utility of the approach.
Inspired by John Loschiavo, who watched a presentation by Nick Salafsky on YouTube about the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation the forum was set up with fellow practitioners to find out more.
Finding several organisations in Victoria that were already applying the Open Standards, the forum was organised, mainly with local Councils to share information. From the forum a website with all the presentations was created https://planningforbiodiversity.com/
Probably one of the most exciting aspects of this forum is the presentation by Parks Victoria, the State Government agency tasked with managing the State’s Parks and protected areas, which is now using the Open Standards to link planning to on-ground management.
